A Comparison of the three main POD printers - UK

The UK print market doesn’t get discussed much, so I hope this article helps shine some light on what is a very confusing field. Prices valid Feb 2023.

With the emergence of Book Vault, I felt it was time to see if they might be worth investigating. I currently use both KDP print and Ingram Sparks (IS). I use KDP for Amazon sales and IS for all other retailers and my own print copies; I own a bookshop, so I am lucky enough to cut out one step of the chain.

The Chain

Author/Publisher - Printer - Distributor - Retailer

Every step takes a financial nibble, and it’s essential that you understand your costs and your bottom line. You also need to remember you are the publisher, not the printer. For example, you published your book. Amazon printed your book. Amazon sold it.
